“As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be world without end.” Gloria Patri
So far over the course of this blog, we have thoroughly explored how and why it is that the ‘Jews’ are not ‘Gods’ chosen people’. In this post we are going to have a closer look at how and why it is that the ‘End Times’ mania that currently abounds is misguided theology and wild delusional nonsense.
To start, here is the link for the article we are going to reference in this post. It is recommended to read this article in it’s entirety as we are only going to note a few essential items here.
1: First, a quote from the author as regards the translation of scripture and what is really worth referencing; we need to pay attention to the importance of the LXX a.k.a. ‘The Septuagint.’
‘After all, when one does a Google search on how extensively the NT used the LXX, on top of the very opening page we find this: “It has been estimated that the GNT (Greek New Testament, DKP) quotes directly from the LXX in 340 places, while quoting from the Hebrew (in what would become) MT (Masoretic Text, DKP) in only 33 places.” It is very clear that the NT writers had no aversion to citing the LXX.’
2: The Don Preston article centres around the prophecy of Daniel which, inspires much speculation these days. Let’s get to the prophecy of Daniel in 9:24-27 and take note of why the Septuagint is so important. Here is the KJV:
“Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.” Daniel 9:24-27 KJV
Author Don Preston explains why the LXX is so important:
‘The prophecy begins with the declaration in v. 24: “Seventy weeks are determined.” The word “determined” is important for what is to follow. This word is translated from the Hebrew ‘khatak’ (Strong’s #2852), which means that God, ‘cut out’ the seventy weeks from the rest of time and He designated, He determined, He appointed those things to occur within the confines of that seventy weeks.’
This is exactly as I have argued previously simply based upon the logic that Messiah would not leave things hanging, never mind for such an indeterminate length of time such as 2000 years. No, that would be totally illogical and as I have also argued useful for those in charge of religions, which, seek to keep people under control through threat of future judgement.
Once again, getting the proper translation of the Hebrew is critical; the seventy weeks were ‘cut out’ as a special period of time for all of these things to happen.
We are told as much by Christ himself:
“Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.” Matthew 23:36 KJV
“Verily I say unto you, This generation shall not pass, till all these things be fulfilled.” Matthew 24:34 KJV
3: Now that author Don Preston has established that 70 weeks are not just ‘determined’, but actually a specific period of time allotted during which, all things must be accomplished, let’s note one more item:
‘Notice the focus on ‘the end.’ What time of the end is this? Well, it is patently the end of Jerusalem and the temple, but more than that, it is the end of the appointed time! It is the end of the determined time, that was, ‘cut out.”
Ok, with those main points noted from the Don Preston article here again is the full Daniel prophecy, in two sections for quick commentary:
“Seventy weeks are determined upon thy people and upon thy holy city, to finish the transgression, and to make an end of sins, and to make reconciliation for iniquity, and to bring in everlasting righteousness, and to seal up the vision and prophecy, and to anoint the most Holy.” Daniel 9:24 KJV
Notice here it says the specific things that are to happen within this 70 weeks:
1: to finish the transgression
2: to make an end of sins
3: to make reconciliation for iniquity
4: to bring in everlasting righteousness
5: to seal up the vision
6: to seal up prophecy
7: to anoint the most Holy
“Know therefore and understand, that from the going forth of the commandment to restore and to build Jerusalem unto the Messiah the Prince shall be seven weeks, and threescore and two weeks: the street shall be built again, and the wall, even in troublous times. And after threescore and two weeks shall Messiah be cut off, but not for himself: and the people of the prince that shall come shall destroy the city and the sanctuary; and the end thereof shall be with a flood, and unto the end of the war desolations are determined. And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the overspreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.” Daniel 9:25-27 KJV
Folks, we were told by Christ in His time that there were not going to be different times or different ’days’, when certain things would happen, but one period of ‘days’:
‘And when ye shall see Jerusalem compassed with armies, then know that the desolation thereof is nigh. Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto. For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.’ Luke 21:20-22 KJV (underline mine)
Here again, is a direct quote from author Don Preston on why it is that the LXX is so important:
‘So, let’s look closer at the LXX and what it says about the consummation.
‘And one week shall establish the covenant with many: and in the midst of the week my sacrifices and drink-offering shall be taken away – and in the temple shall be the abomination of desolations: and at the end of the time an end shall be put to the desolation.’
Take particular note of the last sentence: ‘at the end of the time an end shall be put to the desolation.’
The text does not, as a few translations give it, refer to the ‘end of time.’ It is the time of the end. The Greek of the LXX text is ‘tes suntelias kairou’. Suntelia means consummation, full end.7 And it is literally ‘the end of the kairos.’ The word kairos means divinely appointed time. So, Daniel said that by the end of the seventy weeks all vision and the prophetic office would be brought to an end through the fulfilment of all prophecy. The end of the seventy weeks of Daniel 9 is the time of the destruction of the city and sanctuary, the time of the suntelia kairon, the consummation of the appointed time. Jesus, predicting the destruction of Jerusalem, said, ‘these be the days of vengeance when all things written must be fulfilled’, and he was speaking of the kairos appointed for that destruction.’
As we have already seen in Part 5, there are plenty of better translations of Matthew 24:3 & Matthew 5:22 that use ‘consummation’ to make a more accurate interpretation; it is not the end of time but the full completion of a time, which, of course was the end time of the Old Testament or the Old Covenant age. (Wouldn’t it make basic sense to complete fully the Old Covenant before bringing in the New???)
So, here is another very fitting observation from the author I think is pertinent to share because to be honest, until I hit this article I just couldn’t find this depth of understanding, but was nonetheless able to observe the following occurring regularly today:
‘Commentators strive mightily to avoid the force and power of Jesus’ words about “all things written” being fulfilled in the AD 70 judgment.’
Folks, I see this kind of stuff all over the place with people talking on about how certain words of Christ were not precise when as we have seen His language was, naturally, entirely accurate.
So, let’s bring this post to a close with some more choice words from The Anointed Christ:
“And when he was come near, he beheld the city, and wept over it, Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side, And shall lay thee even with the ground, and thy children within thee; and they shall not leave in thee one stone upon another; because thou knewest not the time of thy visitation.” Luke 19:41-43 KJV
“And He said unto them, See ye not all these things? verily I say unto you, There shall not be left here one stone upon another, that shall not be thrown down.” Matthew 24:2 KJV
